Winemaking: The Art and Science

Winemaking Classes at Penn State BehrendPresque Isle Wine Cellar's very own Executive Winemaker, Bob Green, will be teaching Winemaking: The Art and Science, a three part series offered by Penn State Behrend's Community Outreach Program. This three part workshop will provide an introduction to the winemaking process, including options for raw materials, basic fermentation theory, techniques and sanitation. Green will be demonstrating and discussing the basic equipment and ingredients that are needed to get started. This workshop series is perfect for individuals who want to start making their own wine or improve their current wine production. We would encourage all attendees to make their own wine to follow along with the class, as we invite attendees to bring their homemade wine with them to the third class.

Winemaking 101: The Art of Winemaking - Getting Started

Learn the art of making wine at home with Presque Isle Wine Cellar’s Executive Winemaker Bob Green. This workshop will provide an introduction to the winemaking process, including options for raw materials, basic fermentation theory, techniques and sanitation. Green will be demonstrating and discussing the basic equipment and ingredients that are needed to get started. This workshop is perfect for individuals who want to start making their own wine or improve their current wine production.


*This is the first workshop in a three part series that walks you through the process from starting with the basics to bottling your wine. The second workshop, Post-fermentation, will be offered mid-January and the third workshop, Bottling, in May. 

 

Winemaking 102: Post-fermentation (January 17th, 2018 6-8pm)

Now that fermentation is complete, what's next? Presque Isle Wine Cellar’s Executive Winemaker Bob Green will explore options for clarification, blending, and flavor modification as the next step toward creating sound wines. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of their wines for feedback and discussion. Options for finishing the wine will be introduced as you prepare to finish your batch in Winemaking 103. If you currently make your own wine this is also a great time to learn how to fine-tune your current process.

 

Winemaking 103: Bottling (May 16th, 2018 6-8pm)

Ready to bottle your wine? Presque Isle Wine Cellar’s Executive Winemaker Bob Green will walk you through the final steps of bottling. Green will share tips and tricks for adding sweetness and additives to protect the finished wine product. Participants are encouraged to bring their wines for tasting and discussion.
