Free SO2 Testing
Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) is one of the most important and effective chemical tools in winemaking. It inhibits spoilage, molds and bacteria, and is a highly effective antioxidant, for which there is currently no suitable substitute.
We carry all the equipment and reagents needed to conduct free sulfur dioxide (SO2) testing to confirm you are maintaining the necessary levels of free SO2 in your wine, whether you prefer to use fast and economical but less precise Free SO2 Test Titrets, traditional Aeration Oxidation testing, or convenient and accurate, but more expensive, digital SO2 testing meters.
A very quick, reasonably accurate, and economical alternative is the Free SO2 Test Titret, although these kits have a shorter shelf life than aeration oxidation reagents. This method is a good choice for most home winemakers.
Many winemakers believe aeration oxidation is the most accurate way to test, but that method does require a laboratory apparatus set-up and some simple lab skills. See our Testing Free SO2 by Aeration Oxidation instructions for more information.
Another very quick, very accurate method is to use digital SO2 test meters by Vinmetrica or Hanna Instruments. These have great advantages and convenience but are also the most expensive.
